It is looking as though 2012 will be an interesting year for my pottery work. I will be showing my porcelain at three new shows; Art in Action, Potfest in the Pens...both for the first time, and The Contemporary Craft Fair at Bovey Tracey, my first time as a potter, although I showed jewellery there a couple of years ago. I am currently at work designing a range of pottery for a restaurant/hotel and am enjoying the challenge of producing practical wares at an economical price. I am gaining some inspiraton in this project from looking at Ming dynasty pottery from China. I have seen pottery described as 'Kitchen Ming' which must have been produced in vast numbers for use in Chinese restaurants during the 17th century and earlier. Many of the bowls and plates have an unglazed ring in the centre to allow pots to be stacked on top of one another in the kiln, thereby economising on packing space. As I have such a tiny kiln I am obliged to do likewise and I am interested in the history of designing pots to accommodate this practice. I hope you like what you see on this website, if there is anything here that you would like to respond to, please contact me, I will look forward to hearing from you.
